West Valley Demonstration Project (Buffalo, NY) - The WVDP is located on the site of the only commercial nuclear fuel reprocessing plant to have operated in the United States. It is currently generating and storing mixed waste owned by the State of New York and expects to generate and store mixed waste in the future. The site is located on 3,340 acres of state-owned land approximately 30 miles southeast of Buffalo, New York.

Primary Function
The Western New York Nuclear Service Center (WNYNSC) is comprised of approximately 3,300 acres approximately 35 miles south of Buffalo, New York. The site, which is managed by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on behalf of the State of New York, was the home of the nation's only commercial nuclear fuel reprocessing facility.
Ongoing Operations
High-level waste solidification was completed in 2002. Work at the site is now concentrated on decontamination and decommissioning at the West Valley site.
