Idaho National Laboratory (Idaho Falls, ID) - In operation since 1949, INL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in nuclear and energy research, science, and national defense. The Board's primary interest is in the Idaho Cleanup Project which addresses the safe storage of used nuclear fuel and calcined high-level radioactive waste; treatment of sodium-bearing radioactive liquid waste; and safe retrieval and repackaging of transuranic waste for offsite disposal at DOE's Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.
